What do you get when you put our cities best artisans, cooks, designers, craft queens and creative souls in the University of Western Australia’s magnificent Winthrop Hall? Perth Upmarket of course. The regular quarterly event showcases the best of the best under one roof.
My good friend L & I sacrificed our Sunday morning sleep in and headed down to UWA bright and early to beat the crowds. Even at 9am the university was buzzing with people enjoying the sunshine and cool breeze.
Upmarket has something for everyone. My personal favourites of the day were Subiaco’s Kookery – quirky homewares (tea towels, aprons and more) featuring clever statements (the magnet I bought says ‘you are the butter to my bread’… awww!), Jurien Bay’s Monzie Mu – the best smelling soap in the world, Buttonologie, the button experts, where I picked up a fantastic giant paperclip button bookmark and Delish Ice – the mobile artisan popsicle truck I’ve been dreaming about (we recommend the basil and elderflower and the raspberry lemonade).
If you’re a mum (or a dad of course) with little kiddies, Junior Upmarket in Hackett Hall is baby and children heaven. Homemade clothing, footwear, toys and accessories are available with the most creative designs available.
Upmarket also hosts a wedding special twice yearly – if you’re in the market for some inspiration for your upcoming nuptials the Wedding Upmarket is happening in May.
Swanning around in the sunshine with my good friend is definitely more fun than sleeping in on a Sunday morning. Can’t wait for the next serving.
What do you look for when shopping at markets?

Oh I really want a knitted cactus, they look so odd.
Wouldn’t turn down an ice lolly either!
I loved the cactus, extremely random! E x
I love markets. This one looks amazing. I like funky foods or outdoor plants. That’s my thing to look for at markets.
I love a good farmers market for plants – they have the best choices! E x
