When I drove to work this morning it was nine degrees. My windscreen was sporting icicles and even after a good 20 minute drive my rear window was still frosty. All I can say is thank god for my jacket, because we’re only just getting into winter and it is already damn chilly.
But what about those who don’t have a jacket? Or can’t afford one? This is where the Salvation Army in conjunction with Karrinyup Shopping Centre have stepped in and I was very excited to be asked to get involved and help raise awareness for a wonderful cause.
The annual Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal runs from June 9 – July 6 in support of the Salvation Army’s ever so important Red Shield Appeal. There are a lot of Perth families doing it tough out there and you can help them by freeing up some space in your wardrobe and getting involved.
I’m one of those people who has too many clothes and buys new bits and pieces weekly. E and I will be donating a few jackets to the appeal, as well as other warm clothing including jumpers and scarves. If you don’t have any coats or jackets, the Salvo’s are also taking new blanket and doona donations, as well as warm baby and kids clothes. Anything you can spare really, as long as it is in good condition and will help somebody feel snug this winter.
The collection bin will be located at Karrinyup Shopping Centre in the Centre Court – open from 10am to 5pm daily, Monday to Saturday, closes 7pm on Thursday and opens from 12pm to 4pm on Sunday.
So if you have a spare moment this week, put those jackets you never wear anymore aside for someone who needs them a little more than you do.
