After my recent self epiphany in relation to my body, I’ve been embracing my curves and feeling very warm and fuzzy within my self.

With such a liberating topic on my mind, who better to discuss body love with than an international plus sized model. In a world where beauty is dictated by the media it’s time for a fashion revolution. Gone are the days of catwalks being a size zero zone, curvy girls are on the rise! Perth beauty Sophie Sheppard is stunning goddess, and has modelled for the likes of Vogue Italia, shared a flat with Robyn Lawley in NYC and runs her own blog The Curvy Collab. I sat down with Sophie to find out why curvy models are so important to the fashion industry, and what she’s wearing this winter.

Who is Sophie in five words?
Bubbly, confident, independent, fun & street-smart.

What do you do?
I’m a curvy model – which pretty much means I’m a model over a size 10!

Why do you do it?
I love my job and what it represents – empowering women to accept their beauty at any size or shape. I love that I represent the ‘norm’ in the cut throat fashion world.

What inspires you?
Everything! Other models, fashion, being back in Australia with my friends and family, my work, living in New York and the millions of different attitudes and people you come across and associate with everyday – it’s awesome.

Anything exciting we should look out for in the near future?
I’ve just finished shooting some amazing campaigns here in Australia – the new Myer and Target spring collections and an amazing brand called 17 Sundays which is completely fashion forward – as well as an editorial spread in Shop Til You Drop magazine – so keep an eye out!

Why are curvy models so important in the fashion industry?
Because we represent the majority. The average woman in Australia, the UK and the US is about a size 16 and plus sized models are anything from a size 10. I think it’s so important for young girls and women to see themselves being represented in fashion, to open the pages of a magazine and not only see a size 0 model, but to also see someone who is like them. Fashion is for everybody so different sizes, shapes, ages and races should be used and showcased!

What are your winter fashion staples?
In New York it is all about what is going to stop you from freezing, so Perth is a little easier to navigate! A good pair of jeans. A killer leather jacket. A black dress you can rock on its own or layer for those colder nights!
