Accessories make a look. Adding a simple ring or cuff to a casual outfit can jazz it up and bring it together in seconds. I don’t leave the house without earrings or I feel naked. I’ve also become very partial to a bright, bedazzled statement necklace. Perth’s own Jemma Manson is the creative behind Little Dove.
She’s a designer and artist and spends her time hand crafting beads to create extravagant, ethereal designs in bright, vibrant colours. Even model Sam Harris has worn Jemma’s jewellery. Wow.
Like a crow to silver I was immediately drawn to Jemma’s fruity colour palette and nature inspired bling. I took five with the super talented lady to find out where she finds her inspiration in her day to day life and which trends she’s loving this season.
Who is Jemma in five words?
Designer, hippy, artist, loves love.
What do you do?
I am the designer and maker of Little Dove jewellery. All the beads are hand made by me!
Why do you do it?
I love what I do because I can’t help designing and making things beautiful. I’m pretty much motivated by all things around me.
What inspires you?
Ancient tribal jewellery, birds, flowers – pretty much nature in general!
Anything exciting we should look out for in the near future?
My new collection will be available soon and is inspired by birds, flowers and sunsets. It will feature a lot of gold and yellow tones and more colour!
What has been your favourite design you’ve created and why?
The Pod Necklace – those specific pod beads were the first beads I ever designed and I still love them the most.
What upcoming fashion trends are you loving for summer?
I’m loving bright colours for the coming months, particularly greens and pinks. I think that they will be used a lot. I’m also very excited to see the new collections from various other WA designers. They are just so talented!
Even Jemma likes to keep it local! I love hearing Perth locals looking after their fellow creatives. And I can’t wait for Jemma’s next collection. For more Little Dove goodness head over to her Facebook page where you can shop the look.
