I’m a huge fan of listening to fellow bloggers speak, so when I received an invitation to the Karrinyup Shopping Centre Spring/Summer 14 VIP fashion launch featuring it girl bloggers Elle and Tash of They All Hate Us blog fame I was in!
Since sitting back and listening to A Minute Away From Snowing blogger Michelle earlier in the year I’ve become fascinated with hearing the stories of successful ladies and gents and finding out what makes them tick!
My gorgeous friend L and I dolled up Wednesday evening and braved the peak hour traffic to attend the fashion event. Firstly I’d like to thank my little sister for loaning me a dress – you’re a star. Surprisingly the traffic was relatively decent and we made great time. Entering the quartered off area we were greeted by crisp champagne, banging tunes and gorgeous flowers, as well as some very well dressed ladies and gents and Perth’s fashionistas, media and bloggers. It was also a nice chance to catch up with friends over a drink and some tasty canapés. Perth artist Mekel was also spotted live sketching at the event – a fantastic idea!
I will freely admit I’ve only recently discovered They All Hate Us. This girl reads a lot of different blogs so I’m very surprised I hadn’t heard of the girls. Some of the other bloggers I spoke to were huge fans though, and I can see why. Both Tash and Elle seem very down to earth which is one thing I love in a blogger – approachability! The first point that stuck with me after listening to them banter during their styling session was they had no problem pairing a designer bag with a $20 tee! I absolutely agree as not everyone can afford a four digit wardrobe and there is really no issue being smart with your dollars! We all know it’s about how you style your outfits. Both Tash and Elle were dressed quite casually in neutrals and denim, but the way they had paired their simple looks oozed fun and cool. The second piece of advice that resonated with me was “to get a blow dry every fortnight”! What I took from this comment was not just about heading out to the hairdresser every week, but to take care of yourself in general, and take time out for you! This is one of my golden blogger rules – find time for balance!
The evening continued with fantastic fashion shows featuring Karrinyup’s stores including Forever New, Collette, Cue, Witchery and General Pants. I really enjoyed the show as I’m not a designer labels kind of girl, and it was great to see how affordable fashion can be styled to look expensive. There are a lot of cool trends coming up this spring/summer including floral, pastel and metallics so if you’re in dire need of a wardrobe makeover a visit to Karrinyup can help, and not break the bank. Big thanks to Karrinyup Shopping Centre for a brilliant evening. This girl will never say no to champagne and style.
