I few months ago I attended the Love Thread x Esther Foundation ‘Pretty In Pink Girls Night In’ (more on the event here). One thing that really struck me about the wonderful charity event was the amount of time and effort that went into creating a girly, pink haven at Hello Parry HQ.
Turns out the glorious glitter explosion, pink cupcakes and cocktail bar decorations were thanks to Perth creative Shelan Liszech in collaboration with Love Is Party. I never really saw myself as a pink fiend but I could not get over how cute everything looked! I fell in love with Shelan’s style and I wanted to see more. Over to Instagram I went where I found pages of stunning typography, prints, and stationery. Readers, meet Perth loyal and all around lovely lady Shelan of Shelan Creatives.
Who is Shelan in five words?
Creative, dreamer, wanderer, determined and cheeky (as per what my friends say)!
What do you do?
I am a little stationery designer. Business cards, branding, wedding stationery, custom prints… you name it. My services range from bespoke invitation designs to handcrafted accessories including notebooks and fabric envelopes. It was only in early 2014 that I had the opportunity to build up my own little home based design and styling business with a vision of creating one of a kind print designs and unique hand crafted accessories.
Why do you do it?
I remember back to when I was a child that I did not like waking up early in the morning for school (who does anyway?) but one thing I did love was going out stationery shopping with my little brother and my parents on school break for the following semester. I would spend hours deciding which notebook and pens to get. Do not even get me started on pens and brushes. They are my weakness.
What are you working on?
One of my current projects is the “Three Words Project”, a series of custom quotes turned into ink and hand-brushed prints with the idea being that sometimes the simplest of things can make the biggest difference.
What inspires you?
Falling in love with fashion, DIY and stationery in my teens has truly influenced my creative work throughout the years. Magazines such as Frankie, Real Living and Renegade Collective are also a big boost of creativity and inspiration. And above all; passion! I am a true believer. My passion and hard work are the essence of what drives me to go further and achieve my goals.
Anything exciting we should look out for in the near future?
Ahh many many exciting things coming up this month! I will be working in collaboration with Kristy from Flights Of Fancy on The Wedding Lab workshop. I will also be working in collaboration with Hello Parry for the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival this weekend. Watch out for the goodie bags! I’m also launching one of my future projects soon which involves gold foil prints. I can’t wait for this one.
(NOTE: We are the first ones to hear about Shelan’s foil print project readers! Scoop! – E)
What has been your favourite design you’ve created and why?
My “Perth Is The New Black” print is one of my favourites so far. When I first moved to Perth in 2010 it certainly wasn’t the same place it is today. It is amazing and astounding what four years can do to a city. It’s no secret, I love Perth. And being in the creative field, Perth is definitely the place to be. I believe we need to grab the opportunities given to us. My print is just a simple bold statement of how fantastic Perth is right now.
Telstra Perth Fashion Festival launched last night, and there really is something for everyone. Ticketed and free events will run for the week and don’t miss the Hello Parry show Saturday afternoon, not just for the super cute fashion, but for Shelan’s goodies in the gift bags! I’ll be around the city checking out the events over the weekend so if you see me, please come and say hi! I love meeting my readers.
If you could have Shelan design you a “Three Words Project” piece, which three words would you choose?
(Mine would say “The Illusive Femme” of course!)
