The first time I saw Emily Muco was way back when at the BLVD Markets held at the Boulevard Hotel in Floreat. Being the new blogger on block I didn’t really know who anyone was let alone the designers, but I remember noticing Emily in a brightly printed vintage style frock, standing near her rack of equally bright dresses.
She was interacting with her customers in a sincere, friendly manner and looked genuinely happy to be in the sunshine sharing fashion stories with friends and followers. As I became more involved in the Perth scene and realised who the fashion pack were I realised the girl in the wonderful print dress was in fact Emily Muco, the designer behind the pom pommed-sparkling-gelato coloured-feminine garments that you can’t help falling for. Her latest S/S14 line is fresh off the TPFF catwalk so I thought it was the perfect time to find out all about the real Emily.
Who is Emily in five words?
Creative, young at heart, bubbly!
What do you do?
I’m a fashion, textile and accessory designer. My passion has always been creative pursuits so it was just a natural progression. I just started experimenting with fashion and art and have done so ever since.
Why do you do it?
I really appreciate interesting and unique designs, particularly the pieces which are really special. I don’t agree with the common attitude of fast, throwaway fashion, so I am doing my little part to change that and create pieces for people to love and treasure.
What inspires you?
There is inspiration everywhere! I feel particularly inspired by fabric and textiles, colour, art, street style, nature and fashion from decades past.
Anything exciting we should look out for in the near future?
I just showed my Spring/Summer 14 collection at Telstra Perth Fashion Festival and the plan is to keep creating pieces and release them on my online store. There are some really cute designs I think people will like!
What has been your favourite design you’ve created and why?
I really love the clutch bags I’ve been making lately! They are so unique as I make them from scratch, starting with painting designs like different animals or fruit, having it digitally printed onto fabric and sewing them up. The outcome is so fun and vibrant. I’ve never seen anything like it!

What will you be wearing this season?
A bit of everything! I love op-shopping, there are so many great treasures to be found. You will also see me in my own designs, they match my personality really well. I also have my eye on a few pieces from several of the local designers I saw at TPFF.
I love that Emily will be rocking her own designs this season – just proves how proud she is, and how much faith she has in her aesthetic. If a designer is keen to wear their own creations, you know they are cool! To shop Emily’s new Spring/Summer range head over to her website.
If you were a fashion designer, what would you be creating?
