If you’re ever in the Mount Lawley/Highgate area and in dire need of a caffeine fix but are looking for a more chilled out spot then I’ve got the cafe for you. Lincoln’s 102 is your typical quirky Highgate establishment filled with rickety mismatched furniture and a healthy yet decadent menu but it is just off the busy Beaufort Street cafe strip so you don’t have to struggle to find parking or fight over tables. The perfect combination, right?
L and I were desperate for a coffee post vintage sale recently but being a Saturday afternoon we did not have the patience to wait for a table, as the popular hip suburb was filled with people frolicking in the sunshine. So we bypassed the Mount Lawley regulars and zoomed down a side street in Highgate, finding ourselves away from the hustle and bustle.
Lincoln’s 102 is super sweet. There is the option to chill outside in the sunshine or hide away in the small, but beautifully decorated cafe. The menu is extensive but I had my heart set on a good coffee and a sweet treat. There is a large selection of cakes and slices with gluten free options. I couldn’t stop staring at the cupcakes but when I noticed a GF chocolate soufflé cake my mind was made up! L went with the red velvet cake which looked equally as divine. I also picked up a pistachio and walnut brownie to take home to E (because we all know how much she loves a treat) and she too was in chocolate heaven.
The Chocolate Soufflé cake was creamy and decadent. Being a soufflé it wasn’t too heavy or rich and the small dab of double cream was the perfect accompaniment. L’s Red Velvet cake was smothered in chocolate sauce and featured a slather of cream cheese icing to cut the sweetness. She was in love. I’m a huge Lincoln’s 102 coffee fan, and I’ve never had anything to complain about. My usual soy long macchiato was strong and creamy, served in a super cute black and white mug and saucer combination. Very slick.
Take my advice – head off the main road, take a drive through the suburbs and give Lincoln’s 102 a chance – you won’t be sorry!
