Sometimes I wish I worked in the city. It’s constantly buzzing, there is always something new and exciting going on and the lunch time options are very extensive. Come to think of it my current work place is also constantly buzzing and something new is always happening, but the food options can be pretty dismal. That is one good thing about working shift work though, free time to wander into the city for a late lunch and a bit of exploration.
Brookfield Place‘s Cafe Court is the perfect lunch destination for city folk or those like me who love a weekday trip to the big smoke. This particular Friday morning saw my little sister L and I head to Brookfield for a casual brunch at the colourful and cute Obsesso Espresso. The side show themed cafe is the perfect spot for a quick pick up and run or a long lunch in the sunshine. Featuring a large selection of fresh rolls, sandwiches, quiches, pastries, and sweet treats, the cafe is convenient, colourful and quirky, and L and I were spoilt for choice.
If you hadn’t realised it by now, I am cheese obsessed so when I realised Obsesso Espresso served Croque-Monsieur my mind was made. Basically it’s a ham and cheese toastie, but the amount of glorious cheese in that sandwich got me very excited! Double layers! As well as the usual ham and cheese suspects, a lovely zesty relish featured in the bite, and I probably could have eaten two.
L opted for a Roast Beef, Rocket and Horseradish Mayonnaise Roll. Thick cut Turkish bread encased the fresh beef and salad, finishing with zingy horseradish sauce. Her brunch was demolished pretty quickly, and although she found it delicious, L noted it could have had a little more beef and rocket to fill up the large roll.
Obsesso Espresso’s coffee was definitely something to obsess about, and my Soy Flat White went down a treat. The coffee was rich in flavour, yet smooth and creamy. L’s Banana Smoothie was heavenly, and it disappeared so quickly from the table I didn’t even manage to snap a picture. Sweet, thick and very real tasting (yes, they use real banana) she was very impressed.
As I previously mentioned the cafe has a great selection of sweet treats and desserts, and L and I couldn’t pass up a slice of the Strawberry & Rhubarb Cheesecake to share. This was probably my favourite dish, as the cake tasted as if it’d come straight from Nanna’s kitchen! I’m not much of a rhubarb fan, but the combination of sweet strawberry and tart rhubarb was a flavour explosion in my mouth. Winner!
If you’re ever in the city and need a sweet or savoury pick me up, Obsesso Espresso is your go-to. Next time I’ll be trying the Rocky Road… Mmm.
