The last time I rode a bike it was disastrous. We live right by the iconic Swan River so we are in the best spot to go for a lazy bike ride, but since my last experience I’ve sworn against a cruise along the riverside. To cut a long story short the last time I rode a bike I hit a dog and went flying over the handlebars. It’s okay, I’m laughing too as I write this. Don’t even ask me how it happened, I’ve tried to erase the humiliation from my memory. What I do remember was the large golden doggy locking eyes with me and sprinting towards my front tyre. And then I was on the ground, floral dress up around my head. E and her nephew R didn’t know whether to laugh or comfort me, and the dogs owner was horrified her dog would do such a thing (plus the dog wasn’t supposed to be off the leash so I think she was terrified I’d report her). The dog was fine, the bike was fine, my elbows, knees and pride were not okay. So understandable why I’m not much of a cyclist. Until I received the most beautiful vintage style blue bike for Christmas from E.
If it’s possible to be in love with a bike, it’s happened to me, and I just couldn’t wait to get it out for a weekend wander. And what better to pair with a vintage style bike, but a vintage style, practical outfit (I now know floral dresses and cycling do not not mix). My new black and white check shorts can be purchased at my favourite place for cheap and cheerful style, Kmart, for a cool $20. I love the retro vibe of the shorts, and they are comfortable yet stylish for an afternoon in the sunshine. I wanted to let the shorts do the talking so I paired the print pop with a simple black tee and my new favourite accessory, my floppy summer hat. I desperately needed a hat for a recent music festival and I couldn’t pass up this Supre gem. The hat is made of straw, providing your head enough room to breath – because we all know black attracts the heat. It’s a little bit sophisticated too, and I can’t get enough of it. Take me out in the sunshine so I can wear it!
I think I’m going to enjoy taking my new bike out this Summer. And don’t fret, I’ll wear a helmet, it just wasn’t pretty enough for the shoot! If anyone is in the know on where I can find an “appealing” helmet please let me know. If they exist.
What is your favourite outdoor Summer activity?

I would totally ride my bike more often if I had a sweet deadly treadly like that! (In pink though)
Pink would be super cute!
Oh Em that sounds like something that would happen to me! Love the bike so much, I’m hoping my family take a hint and buy me a bike for my 40th in March. Love the K-mart shorts and that watermelon necklace! Too cute xx
It was so embarrassing hun. I have made a vow to myself it will never happen again! Bahahaa.

I have a vintage bike on my wish list as well. I’ve been eyeing off one of the petite range at Reids. I love your riding style and I might need to pop in and see if there are any necklaces left.
Oooh I do hope you find the necklace, I only got it a week ago so it should still be around!
Oh you are right.. that bike is a total keeper!! x
