Who’s getting excited for the long weekend WA kids? I plan on catching up on some sleep, seeing friends for food and frivolity and spending Monday grabbing a fashion bargain at the first ever Little Market Place Pop Up Market. If you missed my last post featuring the all new shopping experience you can expect to find high end labels, discounted boutique stock, gypsy inspired jewellery and local designers releasing new collections in the comfort of the South Perth Community Centre.
LMP is more of a boutique clothing market. In terms of the pre-loved stalls, fashionista and market creator Brittany Crawford has focused on quality over quantity and attempted to begin building a fashion community where people know that the pieces they are buying are of the highest pre-loved quality. The market is also the perfect platform for up and coming small businesses and designers to market themselves to the Perth public.
One of the featured stall holders on the day is local Perth Fashion Stylist and Image Consultant Courtney Haslam. Courtney is Style By Coco, and she’s a fashion lover who doesn’t just love clothing, she loves helping people find their potential through fashion. If you need a bit of a style session this weekend, Courtney is your girl. I spoke to the label loving lady to get the scoop on exactly what we’ll find at her stall this weekend, and what you’ll find in her own personal wardrobe.
What drew you to a career in fashion?
Fashion is a huge part of my every day life. I wake up and immediately check out the latest catwalk shows and up and coming models, do my own photo shoots and blog day in and day out. I guess for me fashion has always been about self expression and that is what I love about it. By dressing a certain way you can completely change your mood and that’s what really drew me to a career in fashion.
As a stylist I love seeing clothing transform people, and it is amazing how something as small as dressing well can boost a persons confidence! I have always had a creative side and styling is just the icing on the cake. I’m doing what I love, as well as helping people feel better about themselves! I’ve been “styling” since I was a child – Mum was my first client!
Why did you get involved with The Little Market Place market?
It is a great opportunity for local designers and talent to showcase their skills. I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the first event for The Little Market Place and I am looking forward to meeting many talented people on the day and sharing knowledge. Events such as this creates awareness of all the talented people we have here in Perth. I fully support what the The Little Market Place is doing for the growth of the Perth fashion and art industry!
What do you love about vintage and pre-loved clothing?
The bargains! I recently sourced a tulle ballet skirt at Good Sammy’s for $4 dollars for a “high end grunge” shoot I put together. Score! I think op shops are a great option for people looking for good basics or an add on piece.
Although I don’t wear a lot of pre-loved clothing in my every day style, every now and then I will add a vintage piece to my outfit, for example a vintage Louis Vuitton bag or some jewellery. It’s all about looking at the right places and knowing what your after.
What is a ‘must have’ in your wardrobe?
A good basic v-neck t-shirt in grey, black and white, leather shorts and a leather jacket, black loafers, a good Sportsgirl black blazer, my Josh Goot Leopard Silk Blouse, an Alexander Wang Tote Bag, a Hermes cuff, GRACE – the memoir of Grace Coddington, Grown Alchemist Watermelon and Vanilla Lip Balm and my TopShop JAIMEE jeans (they are so comfortable I could sleep in them)!
What can we expect from your market stall?
You can expect a lot of pre-loved pieces in their original conditions with tags attached, including Cameo, Finders Keepers and Alexander Wang! I want to create a very premium shopping experience, and while I won’t reveal too much I will let you know there will be the option for customers to be “styled” on the day.
Most of my pre-loved clothing will be half price so I suggest the fashionista’s get their bottom’s down to the market to score a bargain!
So you better keep Monday free fashion loving friends. Follow Little Market Place on Facebook and Instagram for all the deets. I’ll be at the event Monday, so you can keep up to date with all the bargains and fun via my Instagram page. See you there!
