EVENT: Urban Couture 2015

Glamour and style has taken over the City of Joondalup as of late with the annual Urban Couture fashion program running over the month of March. From a networking high tea to a social media and flatlay course (coming soon the the blog), Joondalup has been buzzing with colour, sequins and fashionistas galore enjoying the highly anticipated mini fashion festival.

As someone lucky enough to attend more than one of the events I can truly say Urban Couture has changed my opinion on the “far away city”. Before the festival I thought Joondalup was just too far to bother visiting for a shopping trip, but since hitting up the events I can’t wait to zoom back up the freeway and really discover the suburb, starting with the newly renovated Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre!

Now where are the photographs from? I was fortunate enough to attend a VIP reception for the Graduate Capsule Showcase late last week, featuring fashion designer Jaime Lee Major. The WA creative has dressed the likes of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry and it was amazing to absorb the intricate detailing of her stunning designs. Go girl! The reception was followed by a pumping show featuring some of WA’s best new fashion talent from ECU and Central Tafe. Quirky prints, boho casual wear and luxe lace sashayed down the catwalk and it was so brilliant to focus on the talented designers we have here in Perth. I don’t think I could choose a favourite designer, but one thing is for sure – I eyed off about five different outfits! Designers featured included the beautifully dressed (as always) Rosemaree White, fabric queen Shreeja Rajan and quirky prints galore from Charissa Schlink aka Birds On A Wire Fashion. Big thanks to the City of Joondalup for having me, it was a lovely, inspiring evening!

If you haven’t made it to any of the events you’re in luck friends, the closing weekend is set to be brilliant with live painting by the gorgeous Anya Brock and not one but two fashion tableaux’s featuring stunning models and student designers featured at last weeks graduate showcase. All of this fashion goodness is happening this weekend in conjunction with the City of Joondalup Festival. Get your butt in the car and road trip!

What are your plans for the weekend?
