Thought provoking contemporary art has once again taken over the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) for the annual Hatched 2015 graduate showcase. The best and brightest of fresh Australian talent are on display from now until June, and this really is one exhibition you cannot miss out on.
My friend L and I braved the chill in the air Friday to attend the opening party, and it was people watching heaven! A beautiful mix of all ages and walks of life were out to appreciate the countries rising art stars. Featured artists included WA’s Leah Allen-Ankins and Adelaide’s Patrick Heath, while NSW’s Andrew Styan took out the grand prize of $35,000 to pursue his creative adventures. Big congratulations!
Although I don’t know all the technicalities of contemporary art, the beautiful pieces on display left me feeling inspired and evoked so many questions and thoughts. That is the kind of art I enjoy – the odd and over the top, the bizarre and different and you’ll find plenty of that at the Hatched exhibit. If you’re looking for a free Perth event this month don’t miss out. The weird and wacky and wonderful is waiting! I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
