If you follow my Instagram account you would have noticed my feed has been filled with a handful of selfies in frocks. Every single day of the week. Why? Because October is actually Frocktober, the biggest fundraiser for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. Women from all over the country don frocks in support of the charity, creating fundraising pages for their family, friends and internet buddies to donate.
Wearing a frock every day isn’t as easy as you may think! Especially since the weather has been temperamental in Perth and majority of my days are spent at work so I need to be work appropriate too! Plus I’ve had to shave my legs daily and get up early to take a picture. Haha, but I don’t mind because the cause is so important, especially as women’s cancer unfortunately runs in my family and if we can band together and raise money for much needed research, hopefully one day medical professionals will know more about the silent killer.
Here’s my first week of Frocktober goodness.
DAY 1 – Floral Wiggle
I’ll admit I was so excited to get out of bed for the first day of October. I’d pre-planned my outfit the evening before, and wanted a bit of a special frock to start the month off the right way! This ASOS wiggle dress was the perfect choice for day 1, as it was work appropriate and popped for my first dress. Wiggle dresses make me feel sassy and a little bit sexy, and that is how you should feel when choosing your outfits. The length of the dress was just right for the office, and paired with a nude heel and some bright lippie my first day of Frocktober was a blast!
DAY 2 – Spotty Shirt
Another work day, another 50c. I have lots of work appropriate dresses, but choosing the perfect ones to show off for Frocktober has already been challenging as I’m actually taking a week off later in the month for a road trip, yay! More casual dress time. The weather in Perth wasn’t the nicest on this particular day so I went for a long sleeved shirt dress in a fun, polka dot print from Target last season. This one is on high rotation for work as it is so comfortable and forgiving post lunch. I paired the dress with a bright red (ancient) waist belt to add some colour to the monochrome dress, and completed the look with red lipstick by Maybelline. The sling backs are brand new at Kmart and I just love how cute yet professional they are for Spring!
DAY 3 – Stripes & Brogues
Finally the weekend, and time for a trip to IKEA. If you didn’t know, E has just bought her first home so we have been packing, moving and painting over the last few weeks and a new house is the perfect excuse to visit our favourite Swedish home wares store. Again, the weather wasn’t the best on Saturday, so I layered a new season Kmart tee shirt dress with an old Mix Apparel boyfriend cardigan. I’ve only recently started wearing tee dresses and they are a great change from ultra feminine frock styles. This dress was only $15 from Kmart so if you like it you can pick it up in store now. It also comes in black and black and white stripes! Lipstick was also required (as usual) and this shade is from local brand Australis. I wanted to keep the look casual so last seasons black brogues also from Kmart completed day three of Frocktober.
DAY 4 – Spring Florals
Sunday Funday! Sundays for us normally involve brunch, followed by errand running and usually a bit of retail therapy! The wind was out so maybe this dress wasn’t the best choice for day 4, but it’s one of my favourites and I was dying to wear it again! I love the vintage inspired floral print, and I got it on sale last year from ASOS so that is always a plus. My new boater hat from Big W also came out for a weekend adventure. Hats are so good for changing up an outfit completely! Note to self, hats are also not a good idea in windy situations. Holding down a short dress and a hat is a mission. With the autumn tones in the dress I went for coral lipstick by UK brand Barry M Cosmetics. Cruelty free and so nice! Not sure where I picked this one up, but if I remember I’ll let you guys know! Day four was competed with my new open toe flats from Kmart, it’s my favourite shop for great priced flats in all styles!
DAY 5 – Navy AVA
I generally dislike Monday. I know I’m not the only one. But this gorgeous new frock from local Perth designer AVA made the first day of my current working week so much easier. The fabric is thick and luxe, perfect for in between weather. The ruched points around the stomach and hips creates an illusion, hiding those lumps and bumps you may want to disappear. The colour is my absolute favourite, and I’ve learnt that if you dress well on a Monday it helps improve your mood by a tonne. The dress spoke for itself, so I added a simple leopard print bracelet previously found in my Nanna’s wardrobe and a simple pair of flats.
DAY 6 – Red Tuesday
Lady in red! Tuesday is another one of those “blah blah it’s so early in the week and the weekend is so far away” days and this dress was another pick me up. I actually wore it last year for Frocktober and I don’t think I’ve worn it since then! Too many clothes. Picked up at Dangerfield, this Princess Highway dress is fun and floaty, and the perfect length for work too. I love the bow detail and skater style. Every woman should own a red dress! They’re just fun. I went for a matching red lipstick from Rimmel. I’m loving matte lipstick right now, it’s much longer lasting than shiny lipstick which is perfect for work as you’ll always find me with a cup of tea! Again, my Kmart sling back flats got a work out, they are so comfy.
Week one wrapped up. I’ve still got over 25 days of frocks to get through and I’ve love it if you could all donate. Click here to help out the charity. Every dollar and cent counts. I’d love to thank my current donors, you guys are the bomb! If you’re frocking up for Frocktober too leave me a comment, I’d love to follow your journey.
