“A woman’s dress should be like a barbed-wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view…” – Sophia Loren
There are only two frocks left of October’s Frocktober charity fundraiser! It’s been a super fun month where I’ve actually enjoyed picking out outfits every morning for work and helped raise over $390 for Ovarian Cancer research! Another thing Frocktober has helped me discover is loads of new Instagram pages to follow – I’m loving the effort everyone has put in. It’s been magical to see a bunch of ladies band together to spread awareness. There is still time to donate guys. Every dollar counts. Perhaps you can skip your second coffee this morning and donate? It’ll help me reach my target! Now onto my third week of frocks.
DAY 14 – Freezing In Floral
When I woke up for work on this particular morning I was devastated. Somehow it had rained over night and it was chilly as! Noooo. But I couldn’t let a bit of rain ruin Frocktober, so I dug out my stockings for another run. I read somewhere recently that it isn’t “fashion” to wear black stockings, but I think that is ridiculous. Did the said journalist actually live in reality where it is cold some days? How silly. I love stockings. They are the perfect alternative to pants. I went with a black on black look to keep on theme and ended up popping a cardigan on with my dress when I left for work. This Kmart dress was a bargain a few seasons back. I love the tiny floral print, it’s feminine and super pretty. I paired the dress with my favourite Kmart flats that do up around the ankle. They’re so cool I had to buy two pairs when they went on sale recently!
DAY 15 – Navy Days
I love this dress. The brand is Jacqui E but I actually found it in an op shop! Score. It’s the perfect work dress as it has pockets, is the right length and looks professional yet still me. I don’t know how much it would have retailed for originally but I picked it up for about $7. Bargain much. The dress speaks for itself really, I felt it didn’t need a lot of accessories to bring it together, and went with a bright red lip from Revlon and my simple black sling back flats from Kmart. This is one cut of dress I love, especially for curvy girls who want to focus on their smaller areas (waist) and slim down the larger areas (hips). I need more like this one in my life!
DAY 16 – Fri-YAY!
In my Frocktober post last week I spoke about how my workplace doesn’t do “Casual Friday”, but once again it seems like I have rebelled and done my own thing. I wear this dress all the time to work. It’s a Dangerfield midi and although it’s a tiny bit big I haven’t let that stop me! It may not be the best dress for the office (the print is pretty bright) but I’ve had so many compliments from patients at work who loved the “cheeriness” of this one. So I’m going to keep wearing it to work! I paired the red and white daisy print with new season white lace flats from Kmart and Maybelline matte lipstick. Friday goes faster in floral!
DAY 17 – Denim Printed
Weekend time! I’ve found Frocktober to be a lot more fun on the weekends. I’m able to pull out the dresses I love that aren’t “length appropriate” for the office, and I’ve been able to rock my hats and fun footwear. These weekend looks are me to a tee. This awesome blue Dangerfield denim mini made an appearance last year for Frocktober, but I love the print so much (it’s birds) I had to get it out again! Outfit repeater, haha. Last year I kept it casual with tan accessories and lady like locks, but this year I added a little more drama with my beloved felt hat from Big W and my fun, 90s vibe white sandals from Kmart. I love these shoes because it feels like you’re walking on a cloud! They’re so fun! This look took E and I out to brunch at a cafe in our suburb, followed by a smidgen of op shopping. And I may have picked up a few more frocks to show you! Can’t take me anywhere without buying something.
DAY 18 – Gifted Floral
It’s so lovely when friends gift you frocks! E’s friend P dropped off a huge bag of goodies for me to keep a few months back and this beautiful floral dress was in amongst the pile of clothing. I didn’t know the label (Billie & Blossom), but I did know it was a sweet little number that fitted like a glove! I love the bright red and orange against the black, and I also love the cut outs in the back of the dress (not pictured). It is lady like and screams tea party, so that is why I chose this one, because we were having my siblings over for a late birthday gathering for E! Cupcake anyone?
DAY 19 – Roadtrip!
Number one rule when road tripping… Comfort! We got up at the crack of dawn on this particular morning to pack the car, pick up our friends and continue on our road trip to Denmark (more on the beach town here). I knew I’d be sitting in the car for five or so hours, so I chose a dress that wouldn’t crease and would keep me comfy for the long journey. I actually found this dress at the markets in Cambodia for a cheap $8AUD. I loved the wacky print (I don’t even know what the print is), and the bold pinky red against the black. I wasn’t sure if the dress would even fit, seeing Asian holiday destinations are known for smaller clothing sizes, but I was assured this was “one size fits all”. Lucky it did fit because I also grabbed it in purple. As we were traveling I went with a new season sandal from Big W and my trusty eBay sunnies. I was super comfy on the ride and the maxi length kept me warm too! Functional and fashionable!
DAY 20 – Pear Fan
Did you know pears are fashion forward? I didn’t either. But Princess Highway is a trusted source when it comes to printed frocks. And isn’t this pear print the cutest? I picked up this frock for a fashion event last month and although I wanted to save it for “special smart casual occasions” I had to take it down south on my trip. The weather was lovely on day one in Denmark, so I managed to pull my straw boater out again. This was one of my favourite frocks this month!
