And that’s a wrap on the frocktastic festivities of Frocktober 2015! The month long fundraiser for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) saw women all over Australia band together and frock up daily to raise awareness and much needed funds for an early detection test for the silent killer. I was kindly asked to pop on a “Frocktober Ambassador” hat this year and I hope I helped you all to understand the need for research into the disease. I managed to hit my fundraising target of $500 (and some) which really made the month of frocking up worth it. Huge thanks to those who donated, you are all stars. If you still want to donate you can – click here. Donations can be made until mid November. Now on to my final week of frocking up. I’ll admit I’ve had the pants and skirts on since Frocktober ended, frock fatigue is certainly a real thing!
DAY 21 – Orange Is The New Black
I don’t normally wear a lot of orange reds (I prefer a blue based red) but when I came across this vibrant orangey red paisley print shift dress in an op shop I knew it was mine. It’s Princess Highway, and I know how much this label normally is so I was super excited to score this dress for a tiny $7! I love op shopping, and since we’ve moved house we are now a five minute drive from the ultimate op shop strip in Belmont! Five op shops in a row! It’s magical. I wore this dress on a day out down south in Denmark (more about my Denmark adventure here). We brunched, took paddle boats out on the river and headed to the beach. This mini was perfect for sunshine fun, I know it’ll be on high rotation this season.
DAY 22 – Black Maxi
You may know I don’t wear a lot of black, but when we visited Denmark I needed to take my “warmest” frocks with me and this new season Big W had the length to keep my shivering at bay! I’ve styled this dress on the blog in the past (more here) and on that occasion I brought it to life with super extravagant accessories and colour, but on this day I kept it pretty damn casual. Not that you can see it very well in the pictures, but I wore a gold statement necklace from Lovisa as a bit of a feature as it is important to jazz up black with a bit of something something! My new Quay Australia sunglasses from Pure Moda (more on my sexy shades here) completed the look, with a lashing of red lippy of course. I’m still getting used to so much length in maxi dresses, but I’m pretty sure I’ll add a few more to my Summer wardrobe. This dress visited a beautiful Denmark brewery. Perfect for beer in the sunshine!
DAY 23 – Hipster Life
The tee dress and brogue combo is a clear personal favourite, and I rocked a similar look in a different colour scheme earlier in the month (more here). You can never have enough stripes! I’m obsessed with stripes, so much so I purchased this cheapy Kmart tee dress in two different colours! This black and white version is so versatile and cute, and went well with my new gifted brown brogues from Betts. I felt like a bit of a hipster dork traipsing around Denmark town centre in my fancy shoes, but blah! Who makes the rules when it comes to the way I dress? Me! How gorgeous is the back drop in these pictures? Denmark truly is magical.
DAY 24 – White on White
You may notice this picture looks a little different to the rest of my Frocktober snaps? My camera battery actually died on the final day of our Denmark escape and I didn’t bring the charger so E had to take this picture on my phone. It really irked me the pictures didn’t all look the same, haha! But at least the daily dress was captured! I adore a boho style white frock, they’re perfect to throw on in Summer. This Lee Cooper beauty from Big W is light, floaty and a huge statement. I actually wore this frock to Christmas last year. Clearly I like it! You may also notice I’ve had a hair cut too! The bangs are back.
DAY 25 – Back Home
Day 25 was my first day back at home after a week of holiday fun. I always tend to get the post holiday blues so I like to keep myself busy and distracted so I don’t have time to dwell on where I’d rather be. I spent my Sunday running errands (someone had to do the food shopping) and what better to wear than vintage floral? I found this dress at the Polka Dot Vintage Markets a couple of years back and I live in it in the sunshine months. The sweet, delicate floral print is so feminine and paired with cute nude flats I was ready to take on the boring jobs that keep life moving!
DAY 26 – French Connection
How cool is this dress? What’s even cooler is I found it in an op shop for under $10! Bargain queen. When I op shop I try not to get too overwhelmed by the piles and racks of used treasure, focusing on pattern, colour and texture when choosing items to try on. This dress flew off the rack into my arms. I love French Connection but I normally keep my shopping to a minimal budget so I would never purchase this in store, but thrifting is so different! I actually wanted to save this frock for more of a special occasion, but found myself running out of work appropriate dresses towards the end of the month, so it made its debut early. I can’t wait to wear this one again soon!
DAY 27 – Red Pleats
I’ve had this dress for almost six years. I know. I can’t part with it! I got it from Forever New and the quality of the fabric is so good it has lasted a million years! I may have mentioned I don’t normally wear a whole lot of red but since Frocktober I have worn it quite often, and the comments and compliments keep rolling in. I may have a new go to colour! Are you like that with compliments? If enough people tell you they like it will you actually take their advice? Humour me. Back to the outfit. Work was certainly brighter in red, and I liked the addition of a black and gold belt (it came with a red one), as it broke up the one colour situation. The belt was actually from another Forever New dress, haha! Sharing and recycling is key in my wardrobe.
DAY 28 – Brunch Club
One perk of working shifts is spending the morning with friends before heading off to work. My friend S also works shifts so we decided to grab brunch before work this particular morning. I wanted a frock that could transition between hanging out with friends and the office. My sister gifted me this gorgeous purple print frock a couple of years back and I am so happy it didn’t fit her because I love it! The almost tie dye pattern is so pretty and feminine and the length is definitely work appropriate so I know I’ll be getting a lot of wear out of this one at work this season. And for play too!
DAY 29 – Millers Thrifted
Millers is one of those labels one would normally associate with a more mature customer (I am in my twenties ha) but when I saw this bright, almost too colourful printed midi dress in an op shop I had to have it, regardless of where it was from! Hey Millers, you have a new fan! The mix of orange, red, pink and purple could be seen as a bit of an eye sore, but I loved the combo of colours. I added a red belt to focus on the red in the dress and cinch in the waist, and off to work I went! I’m surprised at the compliments I received on this one, I thought I was taking a bit of a work style risk, but it payed off! Never judge a label until you try it.
DAY 30 – AVA
My love affair with WA designer AVA continued in Frocktober, this time pulling out a frock I was gifted earlier in the year that I just love! The dress is very lady like, the skirt is full and floaty and I love the detail around the top area. It’s just a dream dress. You can see another way I styled it here. It was probably a little too fancy for work but being my last day of work for the month I wanted to go out with a bang. And I received loads of donations on this day so obviously it worked!
DAY 31 – Leona Edmiston
My final frock! I saved the best until last with this designer garment by Leona Edmiston. Usually retailing in the triple digits I scored this bright red baby for a tiny $30 at an op shop! When I saw it on the rack I knew it was mine, and would be the perfect finale dress for the month. I actually attended a beautiful fundraising event for Frocktober at JONTÉ Design Studio with a bunch of other Perth creatives and bloggers, and it really was the perfect way to close the month of October. And we raised more much needed funds for the cause! Well done ladies.
Thanks again to all that donated. As I said you still have time if you want to place a last minute donation.
When will you next be frocking up?
