I don’t know about you guys, but I love trying new things. Change is good. It mixes up your day, it makes you think and who knows how much you’ll enjoy yourself and learn? I’m not making any New Year resolutions for 2016 but I’ve made myself a list of things I’ve been keen to try for a while now but haven’t had the time, money or patience to try, until now. Some of the things on my list are easy, some a little more complex, but let me just say I can see 2016 being a lot of fun! Don’t worry, I’ll write about my “trying new things” goal over the next year, maybe they’ll be things you want to try too!

Now how does change and trying new things relate to fashion? Well this dress I took out over the weekend is a complete change to what I normally wear. If you know my go-to style it normally involves some kind of dress or skirt that comes in at the waist and flows out over my hips. But this gorgeous Lucciola Cira Stripe Dress is the compete opposite of my usual style. The new season resort wear dress (you could take it from beach to bar) is floaty, freeing and features dropped underarms and sides. It flows down your body, enhances and accentuates your neck line and shoulders, and drops to the floor in a casual Summer ready style. When the package arrived on my door step (I’m a brand ambassador for the label, yay!) I fell in love with the light weight and breezy fabric, obsessed over the striped print but honestly did worry about the style. How could the girl who is forever trying to enhance her waist wear a dress that completely enveloped her body…? Well, it was so easy and freeing and simple. This style of dress is so relaxed and chilled, which completely suits how I live my life. The breathable fabric was perfect for a long morning in the sunshine and I did not feel one bit constricted in my frock. I’ll admit it took a little bit of getting used to, but trying new things is good – right?

I had to whip out a strapless bra for the occasion as the racer back doesn’t allow for a regular style of bra but to let you all in on a secret I probably could have gone bra-less and the floaty fabric wouldn’t have revealed anything! I popped a racer back white singlet under the dress, as the low hanging under arms did reveal my bra, but I really liked the layered look of the two together. The dress would work perfectly for lounging by the pool post swim, then styled up with a cute pair of Summer footwear and some bright lipstick for a drink at a bar post lounge. Versatile and very on trend, I can see myself living in my new smock frock this season.

As the print of the dress is quite bold I kept my accessories simple, focusing on colours that would compliment the vibrant blues and crisp white. I have always loved blue and pink together, so I went with one of my favourite lip stains for this adventure with my little sister. I actually found this Bourjious Rouge Edition Velvet lip colour overseas and I know similar versions are available all over the shop now, but what I love about this lip lacquer is it is very long lasting and you don’t need to reapply every hour. I can eat a meal and drink three wines in this lipstick and not have to reapply. It is also the perfect lipstick for pool side adventures as you could probably take a dip and it’d still be a-okay post hopping out of the pool! Australis has a great range of velvet lipsticks out right now so if you’re looking for a cheaper priced lipstick you need to case their latest range.

I’ll admit I was a little unsure what kind of shoe to pair with my new frock because I didn’t want to take away from the beauty of the dress, and I’m actually on the hunt for a new pair of nude or tan coloured sandals so my good old Kmart chunky sandals had to do! They almost feel as if you’re walking on a cloud, and the platform style of the shoe is so much comfier than a regular heel. A great pair of gladiator style sandals would also work really well with this style of dress, so if you’re reading this E, you know what to get me for Christmas! Simple long necklaces completed the look a la Alexa Chung (check out my tips on dressing like Miss Chung here), and layering different necklaces is bold yet classic for a scoop neck line. I went for a bronze and gold colour pallet as I love the gold against the vibrant blue, and a thrifted chunky leopard print bangle added a bit of a print clash to the stripes. Voila.

Summer is about getting out there, embracing the longer days and trying new looks. I’ve always said, if you don’t try it you’ll never know. Life is way too short to always wear the same thing so my challenge for you this silly season is to get on a trend you’d never see yourself rocking. Who knows, you may find your new favourite style. What trend have you been too scared to try?

Love the flowy nature of this dress it screams summer.
The trend I love and I wouldn’t say scared but hesitant to embrace is the off shoulder top, I hate wearing a strapless bra. I have made my first purchase and I’m determined to endure the discomfort of the strapless bra as I do love the look.

Such a gorgeous dress and those blue tones look fabulous on you. Great idea to add the white tank underneath. Love your “try new things” goal. Such a great attitude for 2016. I might just have to copy that mantra! xox

  4. Way to embrace change! For the same reasons as you, I’d never think to try this style but the floatiness and comfort is very appealing and it does look good too!
