Why you need to download the Yelp app now!

If you haven’t heard of Yelp please tell me you’ve been hiding for the last few years? Yelp is a worldwide thing. It’s a website and app created to highlight, share and review businesses in your area to promote them, discover new trades, services, stores and eateries and to make life a little bit easier for those looking for info. Plus it’s so much fun! And extremely easy to join – simply download the app, create a log in and voila. You’re one step closer to the Yelp Community!

Community is a big thing for Yelpers – the platform is designed for complimenting, high fiving, creating friendships, and bringing the online offline with monthly events for Yelppers to get together and meet up in the real world, try new experiences and food spots and create relationships with those with common interests. How great does that sound? I attended my first Yelp Elite dinner late last year at Kitsch Bar in Leederville (more here) and I met some lovely foodies I had been regularly stalking via Instagram. It was so cool and I couldn’t wait for the next one.

Yelp Perth held their first event for the year last week and I was so grateful to be invited to the festivities. Here’s how how it went – food vendors, alcohol companies and the in between congregating on the beautiful balcony at Perth Concert Hall for a “botanical garden party”. The drinks were flowing, the party was packed with foodies and those seeking something different on a Friday evening and the atmosphere was lovely. And guess what – everything was free! You heard it right – free! As long as you were a Yelp member and checked in on the app at the event everything was yours for the taking. Yelp Elite and newbies gathered together to do what we do best – eat, drink and be merry!

Vendors on the night included The Standard, Coco Vodka, Glazed & Confused Donuts and The Hummus Club amongst others. Alina from Giant Pansy was slinging out bouquets, Carina’s Kitchen Perth had gorgeous jars of cake for those lucky enough to get in early and Satay On Charcoal had everyone crazy for chicken on a stick. It was epic! My personal favourite of the evening had to be the Bombay Sapphire Gin – refreshing and smooth I was in gin heaven. I’m not a huge gin drinker, but I’ve been converted! I also tried a Tahini and Nutmeg sample from Stampede Gelato – so exotic! I’ve been hanging out to try this ice-creamery and it was worth the wait. Yum!

I had a ball at the Botanical Garden Party, I can’t wait for the next one, and I’d love to see you there. If you want to attend some super cool events this year, and meet some even cooler new friends, you need to sign up now. Events are super regular and different every time. Just download the app and get Yelping! Huge thanks to Laura for the invite, as always it was a fabulous evening. Now when is the next one?

  1. You’re talking to an Elite Yelper 2014, 2015, 2016! Although I don’t get to many events because I feel like I need someone to go along with, I do love writing reviews.

    • You need to check out the events hun, they’re so fun. Love the review side too, it’s great to feel like you’re helping people haha xx

      • Totally, I try and review everywhere, whether it’s good, bad or indifferent – too many review sites are skewed because people only ever bother if it’s exceptionally awesome or horrifically bad.
