What I Wore: #WinterStyleFile Fashion Challenge with Kimba Likes & She Writes

If you didn’t realise it by now I love a good style challenge. Why? Because they push me to think outside the style box, incorporate fun new twists to my wardrobe and spot the holes on what is missing. Plus it’s a cool way to discover your wardrobe over and over again. I’m currently taking part in at least six style challenges over on Instagram and mixing them together has made for some fun outfits! I wanted to share a few outfits I put together for Kimba Likes and She Writes seasonal style challenge. The #WinterStyleFile has just finished over on IG, but I loved putting together looks based on the girls fashion prompts. Too soon for another fashion challenge ladies?

Instead of taking the traditional route of a neck scarf for this prompt, I went with a denim look head scarf purchased in Summer at Kmart (similar here). Head scarves are so much fun and really change up a look, so cute bow it was. I’ve been wearing a lot of regular scarves as of late due to the ice cold mornings, so instead of rolling with the masses for this prompt I put a scarf on my head instead! The other prompts I had to work with on this particular day included “Pinspired”, “American Dream” and “Green”. The entire look was pinspired by one of my favourite fashion bloggers Steffy from Steffy’s Pros & Cons. Her style is so hip and quirky I wish I had her entire wardrobe, but this look was inspired by her love of mixing hard and soft, feminine and masculine, and quirky vintage inspired styles to create gorgeous modern looks. The blue and white polka dot skirt from Big W screams “American Dream” for one of the other prompts I was working with (similar here), and I really liked the look of the sweet, girly skirt with the band style tee. A green cardigan from Cotton On completed the look, along with brogues from Kmart, Bonds stockings and Ally sunnies.

I had no idea how on earth I would get away with wearing denim to work (we don’t do casual Friday in my office) but when Kimba suggested chambray (it’s a form of denim right?) I knew I had the answer! I paired a last season Big W chambray shirt (similar here) with a black blazer from TEMT to give the top a more “office” vibe. Win! My trusty Target work trousers, a brightly coloured printed scarf (for another prompt “Fruity Friday”) and orange lipstick for yet another prompt completed the look. Blue and orange look fabulous together so I love that these two prompts matched up. I also wore a pair of nude flats (similar here) I recently picked up at Kmart. They matched the colouring in my scarf and I just love a nude shoe. And guess what – no one said anything about my denim at work, ha!

So obsessed with chunky knits right now! I’ve been living in them this season. I’m so glad the girls added this prompt into the list – it’s the epitome of Winter fashion for me. The comfort factor is sky high and they can be worn every which way. I chose to wear a bright red, fuzzy chunky knit boyfriend cardigan from H&M (similar here) with a Kmart striped tee shirt dress, and new season Big W felt fedora (exact match). I took this look out to Sunday morning brunch with my friend V and I felt very on trend, very warm and very comfortable. I also added a pair of grungy style boots and stockings. I find it easier to work around prompts on the weekends as I don’t have the constraint of looking semi professional in a work setting, so this particular prompt was perfect for the weekend. Definitely one of my favourites!

Yes it is! I’m a huge fan of plaid (there is quite a collection of plaid in my wardrobe) so this prompt was extremely simple for a lazy weekend hanging around home. Plaid is very in this season (here is another way to style plaid) and can be found almost everywhere. The nineties trend is super popular, but when putting this particular outfit together I chose comfort over style and went for a very chilled plaid top and jeans combo. I actually wore this look to Bunnings of all places Sunday morning, and totally fit in with the old dudes hanging out there, lol! This Big W top was a total bargain and I really like the colour scheme, it’s different to your usual red or grey flanno. Maybe more farmer than tradie? I don’t know, but I love it! I also chucked on some flats from Kmart – simple and comfy.

Besides finding new ways to wear my wardrobe, I also found a lot of Winter style inspo via the hashtag. If you’re looking for some fashion advice on what to wear this season from real women like you and I, search #WinterStyleFile on Instagram. Here are a few of my favourite looks from the challenge.
