Life Updates

With a new month upon us and a new season (hi Spring!) I thought it was time to check in with everyone and give you guys a mini update on some of the facets of my life. I’ve been running around like a headless chook for the last few weeks and I’m finally well and truly out of Winter hibernation mode. Yay! Bring on sunshine and festivities, I’m ready!

WORK

My new job is going swimmingly and I’m finally finding a balance between work and play. Sure, the weekend work isn’t the greatest but I guess the extra dollars are worth it! More money to plan trips abroad with! We’ve booked some time off in November for a quick overseas escape so I’m counting down the days, haha. But for now I can say I’m a lot happier working between two roles in the office. My mind is happier, I’m using my brain a lot more and the odd day off mid week is much appreciated!

HEALTH

As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve been regularly training with my new PT (my little brother is the best personal trainer in town) and feeling fabulous! For the girl who cringed at the idea of “moving” for “exercise” I can honestly say I’m excited to get into the gym twice a week. I’ve already noticed changes in my body and I’m feeling stronger and fitter already. I’ve realised I prefer training in the morning to the afternoon. I’m more energised and keen to get going. After a long day at work I’m emotionally and mentally drained – working in an emergency department will do that to you! I’m still not a huge fan of cardio but I’m loving strength and core training!  

Speaking of health and motivation I recently attended the launch party for Happy Physio in Mount Lawley. If there is one way to get me exercising make it fun! And after spending an evening with the team at the beautiful new health hub, I could tell as soon as I stepped through the doors of the studio that the team are all about just that – bringing happiness to something that people like myself sometimes find a chore. Offering classes from Barre to Pilates to massage therapy and more this is one gym I can see myself frequenting. Plus it’s very easy on the eye. You can find Happy Physio on Beaufort Street.

On the wellness end of the spectrum I attended my first ever Mental Wellbeing seminar over the weekend run by fellow Perth blogger Emma-Louise from Relatable Miss Renton. Focusing on self-kindness, self-trust and self-image I found myself really thinking about how I see myself as a person, and realised it is really ok to just be you! If you need an evening off from reality take it. If you want to eat that block of chocolate, don’t deny yourself. Emma touched on ways to self care for yourself, which then leads to self trust and working on that self image. It was very informative and super inspiring. Check out her blog for more.

STYLE

Since my camera is still being repaired (never leave your camera on a tripod near a crazy cat) I’ve not been able to snap my #everydaystyle posts and fashion stories. But don’t worry, it should be back in action very soon thanks to the team at Hartland Camera Repairs. If you’ve got an Olympus with issues these guys come highly recommended. I’ve got a few cool stories coming up in the near future with SheIn, Perth designer AVA and RomWe, so keep your eyes peeled.
I also had a bit of a new hair do a few weeks back, and had some tracks shaved into the base of my neck! Scary! My hairdresser Carmen (check out her Instagram here) is a barber working at The Milk Barber in Hillary’s and she’s a whiz with the razor. It’s the perfect look for those of you wanting something a little bit different, yet still easy to hide for work and those fancier happenings in life. I love it!

Frocktober is also coming up very very soon and I’m happy to report I’m once again an ambassador for the charity. You can find my Frocktober posts from last year here, here, here and here. I’ll be collaborating with a few other Perth faces in October with a fundraising event in the works so watch this space. Any excuse to don a frock really!  

ME

August and September are birthday months for me with half of my closest friends and family celebrating coming into the world. I feel like I’ve had a birthday celebration every weekend for the last five weekends with more to come. It’s been great to doll up and head out on the town, especially since the rain has eased. I’m no spring chicken like I used to be but you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do, hahah.

I’ve been trying to do some more reading lately too (check out my new post with some self help books to calm the mind here) and I’m loving it. I’m currently reading Out Of Orange: A Memoir by Cleary Wolters, the “real Alex” from the TV series Orange Is The New Black. I tend to read a memoir then move onto a fiction novel to mix it up a bit and my next book on my to read list is the latest Harry Potter story. Yay! Reading is a great way to relax after a long day. 

Foodie wise I’ve been out and about checking out new eateries on the regular and have discovered a few new favourites. I’ve reviewed some great new (and not so new) places to brunch in Perth here if you’re looking for weekend brunch inspo. I’m heading out this weekend to finally try Old Faithful Bar and BBQ which has been on my wish list for 100 years so expect more details on that one soon!

With fashion events, collaboration meetings and more birthday gatherings this week my calendar is looking pretty full but you know me – that’s how I like it!

    Yes sounds like you have been going through a little boom period with kicking butt and feeling great. I love that feeling of growing stronger after getting stuck into some workouts too. I have to check out the Happy Physio spot. I love pilates. Emma’s class sounds great!!
