Frocktober 2016: The Winter Maxi

Oh me oh my, Perth didn’t get the memo that Frocktober started this weekend. The rain hasn’t stopped, it’s pretty chilly and frocks don’t fair too well when the wind is whipping around! Pretty sure I flashed a few people at the shopping centre in yesterday’s frock. Whoops. Oh well, it’s for a good cause, haha!

If this is your first visit to the blog you may be wondering what Frocktober is? Frocktober is a month long fundraiser for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF). Every day this month I’ll be donning a frock, documenting said adventures and raising much needed dollars for Ovarian Cancer Research. This is my third year participating in the Frocktober fundraiser, and my second year as an ambassador and face of the charity. Frocktober is a philanthropic campaign accessible to all Australians passionate about women’s health. All funds raised are distributed as scientific grants to dedicated ovarian cancer researchers in Australian and New Zealand hospitals, universities and research institutes. Through these vital research efforts, the ultimate aim of the OCRF is to develop an early detection test for ovarian cancer that is both non-invasive and cost effective, so it becomes a habitual part of every women’s regular health check-up regimen along with mammograms and pap smears. The OCRF is not government funded for their research, so they need all the support they can get! If you want to donate to the OCRF every cent counts. Plus it is tax deductible end of financial year!

So onto today’s frock. When the weather is yucky as it is today I had to think about choosing a dress that was weather appropriate and warm enough to enjoy my Sunday in, so I had to throw back to this Winter frock I picked up at Kmart last season. A maxi is the perfect frock for dismal weather, and even though this dress is quite sheer, the addition of a slip helps with the warmth factor. The darker floral print makes this dress perfect to layer up with a denim jacket or leather jacket, and the length means you can wear a cute pair of flats so your toes don’t get cold! Sandals would work too, but the weather wouldn’t allow that right now!

To accessorise this look I went with my favourite felt fedora from Big W. Another Winter purchase, this hat is perfect for covering a bad hair day or dirty hair in need of a wash. The hat also adds to the boho styling I was going for. Oversized leopard sunglasses and coral lips completed my day two look. I’ll let you know now I’ll be teaming this dress with a leather jacket today, it’s just too chilly to go jacket-less! Clearly I pre-shot this look when the weather was less temperamental last week, but I’m wearing this dress today of course. For all the proof you need jump over to my Instagram Stories now and see where the frock has taken me today! If you’re on SnapChat you can also find my frock adventures there – my username is “illusivefemmeem”.

I’d love it if you could spare a dollar or five for Frocktober. Don’t forget it’s tax deductible too! Click here to donate now.

Are you a maxi fan? Do you avoid dresses when it is raining?

  1. I never wear dresses. I love how they look but I always feel too cold, your braver than I for wearing one in this freezing Perth weather! It is a good dress for the weather if your going to wear one though!
