Life Update

And like that, it was November! This year has seriously flown by. I feel like as I’m getting older (gah) life isn’t slowing down at all. In fact, I can still remember exactly how I celebrated Christmas last year. Every single moment of it. If time wants to slow down a little I’d really appreciate it. I thought it was time for a bit of a life update post after all the Frocktober frivolities, as the blog became a little fashion and fundraising heavy over October, so the next few posts will be more lifestyle, food, beauty and travel related! I’ve just returned from a week away in Kuala Lumpur which was absolutely divine so keep your eyes peeled for a couple of holiday posts in the near future. So what have I been up to lately?

I was kindly invited to a few fashion and lifestyle events in the last month or so, firstly the Soda Pop VIP launch in Fremantle. Soda Pop was a pop up shop initiative put together by a bunch of Perth fashion and lifestyle creatives, showcasing local designs and product. My friend and fellow blogger Demelza Buckley and I sipped on refreshing cider whilst viewing the summer looks in a relaxed environment. Local labels Curious Birdy, Alex Just Spat, Sunbella and Sunday Avenue The Label (amongst others) provided the goods on the evening. If you’re looking for some cool local threads just in time for the sunshine, I highly recommend giving these labels a look in. Who doesn’t want to support small Perth businesses (and look super cool in the process)? Unfortunately Soda Pop is all packed up for now, but you can shop the labels online.

The gorgeous ladies from Bloggers United AU (an over east blogging group aimed at creating friendships in the blog world) hosted their second official bloggers event at the Four Points by Sheraton a few weeks back. You may remember I attended their birthday party at Lush not long ago – more here. The set up was super, and the event involved champagne on arrival, discussions lead by beauty brands Vani-T, Weleda and Loreal, plus social media advice from fellow Perth blogger Sameera of DYNAMIQUE Blog. The event left me feeling inspired and ready to go go go on the blog! I also made some new blogger friends who I didn’t even know existed. Who knew Perth was full of such talented bloggers? Click here for a full wrap up of the event by my girl Lauren at LozzN. We were kindly gifted a whole bunch of beauty, hair and skin products to trail too, so look out for some serious beauty blogger moments coming soon. Huge thanks to local BUA representatives Sam (She Writes About It) and Sophie (Born To Buy Blog) for organising such an amazing day.

This event was clearly the best thing I’ve attended recently as I helped organise and plan the entire thing! Just jokes. Event planning is extremely stressful. Myself, Anna from The Tangible Blog and Malinda from The Style Within organised a fashionable fundraiser for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation alongside Perth fashion designer Jonté Pike of Jonté Designs. With two months of planning behind us, the event ran extremely smoothly (besides a random power outage towards the end of the event) and we raised over $2500 for Frocktober. A huge thank you to every single sponsor on the day, we couldn’t have done it without you guys. And to everyone who attended – I hope you had as much fun as we did!

With a change of season it’s time to update your wardrobe, and the launch of Cockburn Gateway‘s Spring Summer collections had me do just that! I don’t head down to Cockburn very often, but I think that may need to change ASAP, as the selection of stores is just fabulous. Myself and Malinda from The Style Within were spoilt rotten on the evening, showered in champagne and yummy treats whilst viewing the shopping centres personal stylists talk all about the latest trends of the season. We may have also shopped up a storm, and I picked up this dress from Universal Store on the evening, which I know will be on high rotation this sunshine season. A gorgeous evening all round!

The CPK is finally in Perth! To be honest I didn’t know too much about the USA restaurant, but I’m never one to pass up reviewing a new restaurant. Located at Hillary’s Boat Harbour, CPK is a family friendly restaurant on the waterfront, oozing with cool California vibes and a tasty menu to suit every kind of foodie. I fell in love with the wooden look interiors and lights – so very chic! The space is gorgeous and a large bar runs throughout the main area, perfect for some Sunday afternoon drinks with friends. Being a launch party, we tried quite a few dishes on the evening, and my personal favourites included the Avocado Egg Roll (melt in your mouth), Chicken Pizza (the crust was light and fluffy, and the sauce was lovely and rich) and the Cripsy Prawns (I just wanted more). The cocktails were also so scrumptious. Such a lovely evening and I’m looking forward to visiting again soon to sit down for a proper meal.

Another wonderful Spring Summer fashion launch, this time at Karrinyup Shopping Centre! I’ve attended quite a few events with Karrinyup, and they’re always a lovely evening. The runway was lit up with the coolest new looks for the season, including the 90s rebirth, which I’m absolutely loving, and guests were invited to meet international supermodel Gemma Ward for a photo op! Gemma also shared her favourite fashion looks for the new season, and all the goods on modelling and motherhood. It’s not every day you meet a supermodel! Thanks for the opportunity KSC!

I mentioned in my last Life Update post that I’ve really started enjoying exercise as of late. Anything weights related mind you, my hatred of cardio is still extremely intense, ha! I’ve moved over to a new gym recently (my PT has moved locations) and now I’m training a few times a week at the Strength & Motion Academy in Midvale. This is seriously the coolest gym I’ve seen. Think street art covering the walls, no mirrors and loads of free weights and “street style” training gear. Plus it’s only $10 for membership. If you live out that way I highly recommend you to check it out, the guys running the place are super cool and very inspired, and they’vd got the best PT in town – ask for Joel!

I’m still working on my mental wellness on the regular, and reading a lot of books to clear the mind and soul! I’m currently reading How To Live More With Less by Dominique Loreau, a book on the art of living a simplified life. Whilst I do not agree with some of her ideas (including removing colour from your home and wardrobe – wtf) I’ve taken a lot from it. I don’t know if I’m ready to live a minimalist life because I like “stuff” too much, but I can see what she’s saying in regards to a cluttered head due to a cluttered life. If anyone is looking to live more minimal this book is a great guide. I’ve found that reading is one way for me to really relax, and I’ve been churning through the books lately. I highly recommended Girl Boss by Sophia Amoruso and The Girls by Emma Cline if you’re looking for something new to read. I just finished The Diary Of A Young Girl by Anne Frank which I’d been meaning to read forever, and it’s one book I believe everyone should read at some stage. So sad. To combat the sadness of that book I’m now reading Mother, Missing by Joyce Carol Oates. Chic lit at its finest!

In other wellness news I’ve also been burning a new candle I was gifted by La Sorella Soy Candles which is perfect for meditation and general down time and relaxing. Thanks guys!

I was kindly gifted a few sun care products in collaboration with Social Soup a few weeks back. Not just any sun care products, a UV Patch designed to measure the UV Ray’s on your bod and remind you to reapply sunscreen or move into the shade etc. I was not obligated at all to blog this product, but I’m just truly in awe of how cool it is for the heat Perth has been receiving. All you do is download the app onto your mobile, apply your patch and scan it throughout the day. It’s so surprising how much sun I’m actually getting doing regular tasks. Thankfully they also gifted me some fab 50+ sunscreen too, which worked wonders on our holiday. If you’re keen to find out more about MyUVPatch click here. Don’t forget to slip slop slap friends, no one likes a sunburn.

So I’ve just been made permanent in the new job I started back in March. Yippee! Obviously I had to “reapply” for the permanent position, like you do in all government departments, but I’m happy to say I must have done the job right because they want to keep me! No more contracts! I’ve decided to take it on part time, and continue my old job part time too. I like both jobs and it’s nice to mix it up a bit at work. This means more crazy shifts though. I’ve actually just finished a run of night shifts this morning – ew! I need my beauty sleep peeps, so cross your fingers and toes for me please that I manage to get back into routine!

So as I mentioned at the beginning of this post we’ve just returned from a week away in KL. We had an absolute ball. In the short time we were their I managed to fit in a lot of shopping (of course), touristy things and my favourite thing of all – eating! We had such a great time. I didn’t want to leave! It’s always nice to come home though! As I said I’ll post all about what to do and see in KL soon. If you’re itching to see some travel snaps I’ve shared a few on my Instagram.

What else? Well I’m a new Aunty (by default) again! E’s sister had a baby a few weeks back and the new addition is just gorgeous. I love kids. They named her Sadie and she’s just so placid and chilled out. She’s a bit of an old soul, you can say that for sure! I can’t wait to watch her grow up and work out her little personality.

So with new babies, 1010 events and social do’s, travel, work and looking after myself, I don’t think I’ve had much time for anything else! I’ve decided November will be a little more relaxed – but who am I kidding!

What have you been up to lately?

E x

So many events and things! I think I skipped out on some of these, but wasn’t Gemma tall?! Haha.
Crazy to think Nasty Gal has filed for bankruptcy! I really enjoyed the Girl Boss book too. After reading your last update I went out and ordered a HEAP of personal growth books and am getting through them. I think you would enjoy ‘If you have to cry, go outside’ by Kelly Cutrone. She’s damn cool and funny, very real.
    xx Jenelle

    • Ooh Kelly Cutrone terrifies me! Would love to gain some insight into her mind, hahah. Still surprised about Nasty Girl, who would have thought hey!! Thanks for stopping by girl x
